Benfica grabbed all the headlines as Liga NOS pauses for another international break following Week 7, beating Porto 1-0 in the Clássico to claim top spot in the division. Other highlights included Portimonense’s Shoya Nakajima displaying another scintillating example of his talent in a 4-2 upset of Sporting, while Rio Ave battled to an impressive draw away at Braga.

Benfica 1-0 FC Porto

Benfica returned to the summit of the Primeira Liga table after a second-half goal from Haris Seferovic handed the Eagles a 1-0 win over FC Porto at the Estádio da Luz, this evening.

Following Sporting de Braga's 1-1 draw to Rio Ave on Saturday night, the two giants locked horns in a direct dispute for top spot before the upcoming international break, as both sides played out a goalless first half.

Seferovic stepped up to tip the balance for the hosts in the second period. The Eagles were tasked with defending their lead with 10 men after Cristian Lema's red card late on, but Porto failed to hit back.

Champions League wrap

It was a positive Champions League week for Portugal’s two representatives in the world’s greatest club competition as Benfica and Porto both tasted victory. Ten-man Benfica got the better of AEK Athens in Greece in a wild 5-goal thriller, while Porto beat Turkish champions Galatasaray at the Dragão thanks to a Moussa Marega header.

Elsewhere, dark clouds continue to hover for Portuguese coaches José Mourinho and Leonardo Jardim, but it was a positive matchday for Bernardo Silva, Nelson Semedo and Mário Rui. PortuGOAL reports on all the Portuguese participation in the latest round of Champions League matches.

An entertaining weekend of action in Liga NOS served up a host of contenders for this edition of PortuGOAL’s Figure of the Week.
