Nice 1-1 PSG

Paris Saint-Germain remain unbeaten in Ligue 1 this season, thanks to a second-half equaliser from Portuguese full-back Nuno Mendes in their trip to Nice on Sunday evening.

The champions fell behind in the 38th minute when Ali Abdi’s shot was deflected past Gigi Donnarumma, but Mendes scored his first of the season to ensure PSG avoided defeat at the Allianz Riviera.

It was a strong day for Portuguese performances in the Premier League on Saturday. The headline story is Liverpool are still top of the standings, after Diogo Jota’s first-half goal gave them a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Meanwhile, there was a first goal for former Liverpool man Fabio Carvalho in a Brentford shirt, as the Bees stormed to an impressive 5-3 home victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

RB Leizpig 2-3 Juventus

Francisco Conceição scored in the second successive match for Juventus, but his winner for the Bianconeri at RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday was a far more special moment for the Portuguese.

Conceição opened his Juve account at the weekend with the third goal in a 3-0 win at Genoa, and he was rewarded by being called first from the bench when manager Thiago Motta was forced into a 12th minute change in Germany. The faith was repaid, as the former Porto man struck with a superb individual goal to give 10-man Juve what had seemed an unlikely win.

Anthony Lopes is a bona fide legend at French club Olympique Lyonnais. Indeed, until recently the long-serving goalkeeper was well positioned to become the club’s all-time record appearance holder, with just 53 showings separating him from the distinction.

However, this season has seen the Portuguese international cast aside by the Lyon hierarchy and relegated to 4th choice as means of ostracization. To make matters worse, Lopes says there has been little in the way of explanation from his boyhood club.
