Braga’s UEFA Europa League ambitions took a blow in Greece where they suffered a deserved 3-0 defeat to Olympiacos.

Carlos Carvalhal’s side were on track to go into the break goalless before a loose pass resulted in Joäo Ferreira deflecting El Kaabi’s shot past Matheus.

The mistakes kept coming after half-time, another sloppy pass punished in the 53rd minute when Santiago Hezze doubled the hosts’ advantage.

The result was put beyond doubt six minutes later when Matheus gifted the Greek club another goal, El Kaabi making the goalkeeper pay.

Braga will be eager to get the next plane back to Portugal where they have three days to prepare for Porto at Estádio do Dragão.

Are the good times back at the Estádio da Luz? They certainly were tonight as Benfica put in their most convincing display for months to tear apart Atletico Madrid 4-0 and clock up a second successive victory in the Champions League.

Kerem Aktürkoglu got the ball rolling with an early goal, and despite Atleti enjoying plenty of possession in the rest of the first half it was the home team who continued to look the more dangerous.

In the second half the Spaniards fell apart as they conceded two penalties converted by Ángel Di María and Orkün Kökcü, with Alexander Bah heading into the net direct from a corner in between, and Benfica could have scored more.

Vitória began the league phase of the UEFA Conference League in fine fashion with a 3-1 home win against last season’s nemesis in the same competition NK Celje.

The result flattered the Slovenian outfit. Goals by three of Vitória’s Silva’s – Samu, Gustavo and Tiago – got the job done, but the hosts missed a glut of chances to increase the score.

Aljoša Matko scored a fine individual effort in stoppage time for Celje.

Sporting Clube de Portugal maintained their unbeaten start in the Champions League after a hard fought 1-1 draw against PSV in Eindhoven.

The Dutch champions took the lead in the 15th minute when Jerdy Schouten stole the ball from Geny Catamo and beat Franco Israel from distance.

Eduardo Quaresma replaced an injured Ousmane Diomande in the first half and slipped over when presented with a golden chance to equalise in the 71st minute.

Johan Bakayoko missed an open net in the closing stages and paid the price, Maxi Araújo’s deflected cross falling to Daniel Bragança who volleyed past Walter Benítez from close range.
