The big game in Round 8 of Portugal’s Primeira Liga at the weekend saw Porto overcome local rivals Braga in hard-fought 2-1 victory.
The winning goal was scored by Pepê after a quick-thinking ball boy threw the ball swiftly to Martim Fernandes, whose fast throw-in caught Braga unawares and enabled Nico González to play in the Brazilian forward.
González was subsequently awarded the man-of-the-match award but handed the trophy to the ball boy in question, Gonçalo Cruz, who plays for Porto’s youth team.
Porto got back to winning ways in the Primeira Liga after a hard fought 2-1 victory against Braga.
Sporting made it eight wins out of eight in the Primeira Liga as goals in each half from Daniel Bragança and Viktor Gyökeres (penalty) got the job done against Casa Pia.
The atmosphere at the Estádio do Dragão promises to be electric for Sunday’s match between FC Porto vs SC Braga. This will be a fascinating and highly entertaining encounter between two of Liga Portugal’s title contenders this season.
Jornada 7 was a fruitful one for the Primeira Liga’s traditional big three with Benfica, Porto and Sporting all winning by big margins. Attention turned to Europe in midweek with Benfica sensationally beating Atletico Madrid 4-0 at the Estádio da Luz, whilst Sporting and Porto drew against PSV and Manchester United respectively.
