The appointment of Portuguese coach Vítor Pereira at South American champions Flamengo remains a hot topic of conversation in Brazil.
The former Porto boss was announced on a 2-year contract by the Rio de Janeiro club on Tuesday, just weeks after Pereira left fellow Brasileirão side Corinthians for personal reasons. Pereira’s defection has incurred the wrath of both the president and ex-players of his previous employers.
There were two more Portuguese appointments in Brazilian football on Thursday, most notably with Vítor Pereira confirmed as new boss of South American champions Flamengo.
Pereira arrives at Mengão amid controversy, having left top-flight rivals Corinthians just a few weeks ago citing family commitments. Meanwhile, Coritiba announced former Benfica B coach António Oliveira has taken the reigns for what will be his third job in the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A.
The Campeonato Brasileiro looks set to be dominated by coaches from Portugal in 2023, after Ivo Vieira and Pedro Caixinha made it three Luso bosses announced in the space of a week in Brazil.
The arrivals take the number of Portuguese managers in the Brazilian top-flight to five, but the figure could quickly rise to seven as Vítor Pereira and António Oliveira are thought to be close to being appointed at new clubs to stay in the country.
João Félix will be made available for a permanent transfer from Atletico Madrid in the January window, but the Spanish side have placed a hefty valuation on the forward according to reports.
Speculation over Félix‘s future has intensified in recent weeks following some impressive showings for Portugal at the World Cup. Atletico are believed to be hoping to use the upturn in form to maximise interest in Félix, who will be allowed to leave after three-and-a-half years in the Spanish capital.
Renato Paiva has been announced as the first coaching appointment at Brazilian outfit Bahia under the new ownership of the City Football Group.
Paiva quit his job at Mexican side Leon last week after just six months in the role. Now, the former Benfica B coach has signed a two-year deal to return to South America, where he previously enjoyed great success in Ecuador.
