Wolverhampton Wanderers confirmed the departure of manager Bruno Lage on Sunday, bringing to an end the Portuguese’s 16 months in charge of the Premier League club.
Lage’s dismissal comes after the previous day’s 2-0 defeat to West Ham United, which saw Wolves drop into the relegation zone and extended their poor form to just one victory in their last sixteen matches in the league.
Manchester City 6-3 Manchester United
Former Manchester United captain and club legend Roy Keane has criticised Manchester United’s treatment of Cristiano Ronaldo, after the Portugal captain did not play a single minute of their 6-3 humiliation at the hand of rivals Manchester City.
United found themselves 4-0 down at half time and trailed 6-1 until scoring a couple of consolation goals through substitute Anthony Martial. Ronaldo, who has now been left out of United’s last five Premier League matches, cut a frustrated and solemn figure on the sidelines as boss Erik ten Hag introduced five substitutes ahead of him.
Inter 1-2 Roma
José Mourinho’s Roma earned an important victory over his former club Inter at San Siro on Saturday evening, with the Portuguese providing footage as he followed the match from the team bus.
Mourinho was serving a one-match suspension having been issued a red card during his side’s defeat to Atalanta last month, leaving assistant coach Salvatore Foti on the touchline for the trip to Inter. In Mourinho’s absence, the Giallorossi came from behind after Federico Dimarco had put the hosts ahead, with Paulo Dybala’s equaliser seeing the teams go into the break level and Chris Smalling heading in a 75th-minute winner.
West Ham United 2-0 Wolverhampton Wanders
The future of Bruno Lage as manager of Wolverhampton Wanders is reportedly under serious threat after defeat to West Ham United left his side in the Premier League relegation zone.
The 2-0 loss in the capital sees Lage’s men drop to 18th place with just one win from eight matches this term, during which Wolves have managed just three goals. To add to the pressure on Portuguese boss Lage, his substitutions were poorly-received by the travelling Wolves fans, including the decision to remove Matheus Nunes during the final twenty minutes.
Portuguese star Gonçalo Guedes has been speaking to English outlet Sky Sports during the recent international break, as he continues his adaptation to the Premier League with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Guedes joined Wolves late in the summer window after five seasons in Spain with Valencia, linking up with his former Benfica academy coach Bruno Lage at Molineux. A quiet start to life in the midlands saw Guedes left out of Portugal’s latest squad, but the 25-year-old is in positive spirits as he reflects on the status of his career.
