Levadiakos 3-2 Olympiacos

It was a significant night for Portuguese in Greece on Wednesday as Rúben Semedo marked his return to action with a goal and Rony Lopes scored for the first time in the club’s colours in the Greek Cup first leg at Levadiakos.

Semedo had not played since August 10, having been charged with sexual assault, while for ex-Benfica man Lopes, getting his name on the scoresheet represents an encouraging sign in kick-starting his career.

Only two players have scored more Premier League goals than Diogo Jota this season, as the Portugal forward continues to prove a reliable goalscorer in Liverpool’s title hunt. Jota struck twice against Southampton on Saturday to help the Reds reduce the gap from leaders Chelsea to two points.

Palmeiras 2-1 Flamengo [aet]

Abel Ferreira is champion of South America for the second year running after guiding Palmeiras to a 2-1 victory over Flamengo in the Copa Libertadores final in Montevideo.

Palmeiras defeated their Brazilian counterparts in extra time to lift the third cup trophy of Abel’s tenure, while also securing a third straight triumph in the competition for Portuguese coaches following Jorge Jesus’ win in 2019.

Dany Mota is in a good run of form in Italy’s Serie B with Monza, and the Portuguese youth international spoke to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport early this week.

Born in Luxembourg, Mota has been a regular for Portugal at U21 level, where he has scored 7 times from 16 appearances for Rui Jorge’s side. The dynamic forward’s Italian adventure began when arriving at Virtus Entella at the age of 17, which was followed by a brief stay with Juventus before moving to Monza.
