There were contrasting fortunes for Portugal’s two Premier League bosses on Saturday, as Bruno Lage won in the English top flight for the first time with Wolverhampton Wanderers on the same afternoon that Tottenham Hotspur, led by Nuno Espírito Santo, lost their 100% record.

Wolves scored twice in the final 16 minutes to earn a 2-0 win at Watford, giving Lage a long overdue win after three straight defeats since taking charge. Meanwhile in the capital, Nuno’s Spurs collapsed spectacularly in against London rivals Crystal Palace, conceding three goals in the last quarter of an hour to lose 3-0 at Selhurst Park.

Portuguese youngster Nuno Mendes has been settling into life at new club Paris Saint-Germain this week, following a high-profile move from Sporting at the end of the transfer window.

Mendes signed for PSG on deadline day in a loan deal with an option to buy, after which the 19-year-old featured in all three Portugal matches against Ireland, Azerbaijan, and Qatar. Mendes arrived in Paris earlier this week to take part in his first training sessions in the French capital and spoke to PSG’s in-house media about his move.

The Egyptian Football Federation have confirmed the appointment Portuguese Carlos Queiroz as new national team coach.

Egypt will be the sixth national team led by Queiroz during his career, having also held the manager position with Portugal (twice) as well as United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Iran and Colombia.

Manchester United sent shockwaves through the international football world in late August when it completed the deal for Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo. After landing the multiple Ballon d’Or winner from Italy’s Juventus, Manchester United signed him to a two-year deal.

Ronaldo’s return to the club where from 2003 through 2009 he won eight major football trophies was not only surprising to fans, but it shuffled up the outlook for many of the English clubs.
