With the summer transfer window slowly approaching its end, several European clubs will be making haste to bring in players to their club in a bid to strengthen their team for the 2020/21 campaign. While many clubs are satisfied with their signings so far, some clubs are not.

Tottenham Hotspur started their 2020/21 Premier League campaign with a defeat at the hands of Everton. A 1-0 defeat to the Toffees was enough for them to understand the need to bring in new players to the club despite having bounced back against Southampton in a 5-2 victory at the Saint Mary’s Stadium in the second game week.

Although they have completed the signings of Sergio Reguilón and Gareth Bale from La Liga, Spurs are still keen on bringing in Braga’s Portuguese star Paulinho.

FC Porto have begun their Primeira Liga title defence with a 3-1 win at home to Sporting de Braga, powered by a brace and and assist from Alex Telles. The Dragons had to come back from a goal down in the first-half, levelled by a Sérgio Oliveira header before two Telles spot-kicks secured the three points. 

Elsewhere, Sporting's opener versus Gil Vicente was postponed over a recent Coronavirus outbreak within both camps, Jorge Jesus’ Benfica replied strongly to Tuesday's Champions League elimination versus PAOK, blitzing past FC Famalicão with a 5-1 thrashing.

Goals from Primeira Liga debutants Gian-Luca Waldschmidt and Everton Cebolinha fired the Luz outfit to their first set of three points, placing them top of the table on the opening week. PortuGOAL has more from Matchday One.

After a pre-season campaign unlike any other in recent history, the Primeira Liga prepares its return tonight, debuted by FC Famalicão's reception of Benfica, with a jam-packed instalment between now and May. Benfica’s brand-new chapter, with Jorge Jesus again at the helm, got off to the worst possible start in Greece tonight.

Despite a summer of heavy investment and voicing of big ambitions in the Champions League, the Eagles crashed out of Europe’s foremost club competition at the very first hurdle, beaten 2-1 by PAOK, managed by Portuguese coach Abel Ferreira.
