Benfica have prolonged FC Porto’s wait for the Primeira Liga title after registering a 2-0 home victory versus Vitória de Guimarães on Tuesday night.

The Eagles, in a game generally dominated by the visitors, were able to strike late in both halves to clock up a 2-0 victory, leaving Porto to search for the point required to nail champion status themselves, against none other than the in-form Sporting.

Elsewhere, Braga were unable to ramp up the pressure on the Lions, having led 1-0 against Belenenses at home before to two sides closed out with a 1-1 draw, leaving Sporting two points clear of the Arsenalistas prior to the Clássico.

Indications of how Liga NOS 2019/20 will finish up grew ever clearer after matchday 31, in which Porto moved to within touching distance of the league title, defeating Tondela to move clearer of a faltering Benfica side that was held to a draw by Famalicão.

It is down at the bottom of the division where there was considerable sigh of relief breathed by a number of teams in confirming their top flight status for the next campaign. Among them was a recently rejuvenated Marítimo, whose coach and PortuGOAL Figure of the Week José Gomes’ recent tactical switch has steered his side to safety.

Sporting de Braga have kept themselves alive in the race for a top three finish after replying to Sporting’s earlier 1-0 victory versus Santa Clara on Friday night with a 5-1 thrashing away to Paços de Ferreira.

Rúben Amorim and his team took to the stage first in Lisbon where Jovane Cabral’s sole goal in the second half would make all the difference for the Lions in a deserved 1-0 win.

Braga eased themselves in against Paços with a first-half hat-trick from Paulinho, scoring two more either side of a Uilton consolation goal to confirm a 5-1 victory that that keeps the gap between the two Sportings at three points.

FC Porto are just one point away from claiming the 2019/20 Primeira Liga title after Benfica came away from Famalicão with a 1-1 draw, hours after the Dragons’ 3-1 victory away to Tondela.

Sérgio Conceição’s men had hopes of wrapping up the title tonight, doing their bit with goals from Danilo Pereira, Moussa Marega and Fábio Vieira in a 3-1 win versus relegation-threatened Tondela.

Porto needed an additional favour, however, requiring a Benfica loss, but a 1-1 draw versus FC Famalicão instead sees the wait for a champion extend itself into Matchday 32, at least.
