Vítor Pereira says he is keen to test himself in one of Europe’s major leagues, after ending his three-year stint at Chinese side Shanghai SIPG last month.

Former Porto coach Pereira lifted the Chinese Super League title in 2018, guiding Shanghai to their first-ever national championship. Although performance level during 2020 was not as high, the Portuguese leaves the country with great memories and a positive impression of the development of football in East Asia.

This weekend saw three of Portugal’s biggest foreign-based talents at different stages of their career all make the headlines for their sides in Italy and England.

Seleção captain Cristiano Ronaldo led the way after his goal for Juventus against Sassuolo reportedly saw him become the joint-highest goalscorer of all time. Elsewhere, Manchester City star Bernardo Silva struck twice in the FA Cup – including a memorable effort with his left foot – while youngster Rafael Leão continued his progress with another goal for AC Milan in Serie A.

Mainz 0-2 Eintracht Frankfurt

André Silva scored twice from the penalty spot on Saturday to give Eintracht Frankfurt their third consecutive win in the Bundesliga against Mainz.

Former Porto man Silva put his side ahead midway through the first half and then doubled Frankfurt’s advantage with around 18 minutes left. His first put him into double figures for league goals this term and with 11 goals to his name Silva is now just one short of his tally for the whole of last season.

José Fonte admits that he has been forced to continue to develop his game as a central-back in French football with Lille, as he enjoys his third season with the club in Ligue 1.

The 37-year-old arrived in France in 2018 from Chinese side Dalian Yifang in what was a surprise move for the veteran defender. During his time back in European football, Fonte has been installed as Lille captain and has started 17 out of his team’s 18 matches in the league so far this season.
