Portugal midfielder João Palhinha completed his move to Premier League side Fulham on Tuesday, and admitted the Portuguese presence at the London club was a big influence on his decision.

Palhinha is Luso boss Marco Silva’s first major signing of the summer after securing promotion in impressive fashion back to the English top flight. The 26-year-old has signed a five-year contract at Craven Cottage for a fee reportedly in the region of €23m.

Palmeiras 0-2 Athletico Paranaense

A big result in the Campeonato Brasileiro last night as Abel Ferreira’s league leaders Palmeiras suffered a 2-0 home defeat to 2^nd place Athletico Paranaense, coached by former Portugal boss Luiz Felipe Scolari.

There was a warm embrace between the two managers before the game, after which Athletico caused a surprised thanks to goals from 17-year-old forward Vitor Roque (38’) and Vitor Bueno, who scored from the spot just before the hour mark. It was Palmeiras’ first league loss since the opening day, but Abel was highly gracious in defeat when discussing his vastly-experienced opposite number.

Portuguese forward Jota has completed his highly-anticipated move from Benfica to Scottish champions Celtic, after a successful season on-loan in Glasgow last term.

Jota was named in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year as Celtic won the Scottish Premiership and Scottish League Cup double. The 23-year-old scored 13 goals in all competitions and was a major creative influence for Ange Postecoglou’s side, having joined on a 12-month loan from Benfica last summer.

Portuguese international Vitinha was finally unveiled as a Paris Saint-Germain player on Thursday evening, after completing a €40m+ move from FC Porto.

Vitinha has signed a five-year contract with the French champions and joins countrymen Danilo Pereira and Nuno Mendes at the Parc des Princes. The 22-year-old also becomes the first signing under PSG’s new sporting director Luís Campos, who assumed control of transfers this summer.
